In dogs, azathioprine is used primarily as an immunosuppressive agent in the treatment of immune-mediated diseases. Azathioprine is often used in combination with corticosteroids (eg, prednis[ol]one) for synergy and to reduce the incidence of adverse effects of each drug by allowing dosage reductions.
