Glucocorticoids have been used to treat many conditions in humans and animals, prednisoLONE and prednisone have 4 primary uses with accompanying dosage ranges:
- Replacement or supplementation (eg, relative adrenal insufficiency associated with septic shock) for glucocorticoid deficiency secondary to hypoadrenocorticism
- Anti-inflammatory agent
- Immunosuppression
- Antineoplastic agent
PrednisoLONE is recommended for use in cats and horses because of the poor bioavailability of prednisone.
